The Man Standing Next Overview

Based on the novel of the same name by Kim Choong-Sik, the movie tells of the final days of South Korean President Park Chung-hee and the man who assassinated him. The president had Korea under his absolute control during the 1970s through the Korean Central Intelligence Agency (KCIA), which had an edge over any branch of government. Kim Gyu-pyeong, the director of KCIA and a close friend of the president`s, will do his every bid no matter how outrageous. However, Kim`s view begins to change after meeting former KCIA director, Park Yong-gak, who has exiled to the U.S. This ultimately leads to Kim`s assassination of President Park on 26 October 1979.
